Man, its been a slow week; posts have been a little uninspired of late, but hopefully that changes with the refreshing weekend up ahead. I need to git the hell outta dodge and drink me a can of ‘kerazy’. And also inhale this video. Cuz it gets better and better everytime I see it. Thanks Jon for suggesting it last month in a comment string. And thank you Javier Morales and John Michael Boling for creating this masterpiece. Be sure to visit their site for more wonderful insanity. So which misguided white kid is your favorite? Mine is Whitey McGoldTie towards the end with the white blazer and the wicked LA Gears. Rock n’ Roll!!
A dragonfly, an oncoming train, the Doves Cedar Room, as captured from inside a moving vehicle one lonely afternoon.
Boo, looks like my mini video post went all wonky so I took it off. I’ll try to repost it tomorrow. All I can do now is share this vintage Japanese Hitachi commercial featuring violin-plyaing grasshoppers. (via TV In Japan)

The Replacements: Here Comes a Regular

This video is so fun, if not a little charmingly corny. But thats just how I like em’, thank you. If you don’t already know, there’s a whole other world of Cardigans before Lovefool. Check out Life, one of my favorite albums ever which features this fabulous gem of a song. Now go to a carnival, preferably in Sweden, and hum this song while you’re on the ferris wheel. Ciao.

This is quite possibly the best fight scene in a film, EVER. You’ve got mad finger-snapping a la West Side Story, incredible audio editing and sound effects, conveniently placed brick towers for villains to crash into and drama, drama, drama. Yes. This is the same movie that brought you Jesus-disco-dancing fever. And yes, this movie only gets better and better.
And because of all the recent Bollywood madness I figured it was time to post a link to a most monumental recent find: Bombay TV. Its like Manna from heaven. This site lets you make your very own Bollywood micro-film complete with your choice of scenes and personalized subtitles. I know, I know. Its way too much goodness for one person to take. And frankly, the scene selection and plotline combinations can be dizzying but well worth the mental overload. Click on image above to try it out.

Action Biker: Farrah
I love Action Biker. Ever since I heard her single, Sandy Edwards she’s had a special place in my pop heart. And after reading her myspace profile, I feel like we could be good friends. Believe it or not, I often spend my time thinking who I could be good friends with out in the music/movie/art world. Sometimes I go so far as to plan parties with grand guestlists. This is how I live my life. Moving on… The inspiration for posting this song came from a most wonderful mix from another Scandinavian pop favorite, Jens Lekman. I stumbled upon this last week and it really made my day. I think it’ll make yours too. Jens made this mix last August to commemorate the end of the summer but I find it most appropriate now because summer’s right around the corner (it was 90+ degrees today!). And so The Death of This Summer mix makes a most perfect soundtrack to it all. Because from death, comes life. Sort of. In the world of mixtapes at least. One listen and you might have to bring out the barbecue and blend some margaritas. And what does this have to do with Action Biker? Among other really fun bands featured (Ennio Morricone, America and Hall & Oates to name a few) you can hear Farrah mixed in at the end of it all. Amen.
(and here’s the link to Jens’ fun blog. The posting for The Death of the Summer with all song listings is under ‘August 31, 2006′. You have to scroll down a little bit to get to it. Sorry, there’s no direct link. Work it!)
Every now and then, a movie hits your netflix queue that you refuse to return once you’re done watching it. For me its the 1982 epic, Disco Dancer. I. Love. This. Movie. From the soundtrack, to the plot, to the choreography; its so damn good. And as the fumes of this weekend’s viewing are still fresh, I thought I’d post a most awesome sequence for you all to enjoy. By the way; the ‘jesus-centric’ angle of this song and dance number is pretty great, considering that it came out of, hmm… NOWHERE. But thats what makes it so fantastic. And of course, the dancing. Fellas, get yo’selves all over these moves right now.
(oh, and do I love the smooth transition from jesus-disco to the next scene? Yes.)
You know, its little things like this that get you through your day. Thank god for the Japanese. (via TV In Japan)
