This could be the greatest premise for a music video ever.

Peter Schilling: Major Tom (Völlig Losgelöst)

This week I’m posting songs that astronauts (and cosmonauts) would dig. This first song is the German version of the 80’s super hit Major Tom and the figure in the photo above is none other than first human in space and all around badass cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin. He never made it to the new wave era but something tells me he and his astro-cronies would be belting the "oh oh oh ohhh"s of this tune while wearing their spacesuits and drinking molotov cocktails for sure.

This film may bring back fond memories or nightmares; it depends on what kind of experience you had as a kid. As for me, it was equal parts of both. I can’t wait to see this. Mucho thank to Jon for sharing the animatronic wealth!

The Walkmen: Hang On, Siobhan

A taste of stellar job opportunities from today’s sactown Craigslist post. I try, (oh how I try) not to get discouraged in my quest for some sort of temporary shitjob to tide me over but sometimes the mediocrity really gets to me. And thats when I fantasize about moving to Helsinki, start some sort of online search in that part of the world, get sidetracked and start all over again. Ah well, its all good; I signed up for this. If you’re gonna do the whole ‘artist’ thing, you shoure do pay your dues. Or become a Zamboni driver.

The black shoe was already there. The socked foot made an appearance.

Gershon Kingsley: Hey, Hey (Horror)

It didnt happen to me, but I was first on the scene. Scattered in the kitchen was an empty can of pinto beans, a can opener,  this recipe and the telltale splatter you see here. The involved parties were Madame Steffi’s index finger and the sharp edge of a can lid. The rest is still TBD by a surgeon’s knife and what news the wee hours of the morning brings. Ugh. Everyone, go get insurance right now. The end.

Clearly the best thing I’ve seen/heard all week. Thanks for the tip Gina!

Beck: Lloyd Price Express (John King remix)

In the tradition of Robot Week, today I’d like to imagine what the St. Petersburg Retro Auto club listens to when they get together. Make no mistake; this club looks RAD and my intentions in posting these photos are to celebrate these guys and endorse their club as a P&C-approved organization of cool. Plus, there’s no denying it; the handlebar and fur hat…? Serious badassery my friends. Major props to my Liddle Brudder for finding these guys on the web and sharing the wealth. Hmm, I’m thinking P&C endorsed clubs are gonna become the next big thing. Are you in a club and you have some photos of you guys having fun? Send them my way. Not in a club and have a couple friends? Make one up and send me some photos anyways (marnie@popandcircumstance.com). Do it. Do it.

Do. It.
