Sure, in many ways it is. Though every now and then a doozy of a week creeps its way in, disrupting all of our 'fresh new starts'. Maybe its the post-recession, maybe its a bad moon, maybe Scorpio's rising a little too much, maybe the dark cloud just isn't going anywhere for a little bit more. Whatever it is, while our luck is down let's listen to songs that make us feel good about feeling bad. (Note: songs 13 and 14 are specially formulated to get you out of any possible popcast-related funk and back into fighting shape.)

Here’s my latest creation, Mike the Butcher: The Last of the Meat Cutters, a joint production with Claire St. John, hip writer for the Davis Enterprise. Yup, its a puny local newspaper that no one knows about BUT I’m still majorly proud of this project AND I’m more stoked about finding Mike the Butcher still practicing a bygone trade over at Corti Brothers Market in Sacramento. This guy was the coolest and getting a chance to see him break down a lamb from one big carcass to a giant spread of amazing cuts was a unique experience to say the least. For all you vegetarians and animal lovers out there, yeah this might be a little rough. BUT we all should know the reality about how the meat we eat ends up in the supermarkets. AND the grander irony here is that most likely this isn’t even how meat ends up at your supermarket anymore. Like Mike says, most meat is gas flushed and packed in those styrofoam trays right at the meat processing plant and honestly, thats pretty goddamned scary. Old school butchering is a dying art and its sad to cheerful neighborhood butchers like MIke, with his crisp white jacket and smart shirt and tie, being the last of their kind. I say three cheers for Mike and his meat mastery. He is a true artist indeed. Go visit him at Corti Brothers in Sacramento. Support the little guy. After all, these are (or were..?) the people in our neighborhoods. Word.

If you’re a Dance Dance Revolution fan, I’d like you to take a moment to really study this footage here. And here’s why: because of this game’s dance/video screen positioning, there’s no way you’ll be able to notice the DDR shadow dancers behind you. And yes folks, they’re there. Luckily this footage was snapped at just the right moment to show that indeed, I tell no lie. My favorite part of this particular footage is how our little friend throws his hands in the air when our session is up, as if we didn’t do ‘well’ enough. Pssh, whatever kid! Big ups to Liddle Brudder who stealthily shot this never-before-seen footage without our little friend even KNOWING what hit him. Brilliant, LB!
